Herbert’s career as a comedian and compère seems to be brought to an untimely end and being in his mid-fifties, he is despondent. Being selected to act in an advert to launch a new tea becomes his saviour when he is spotted by an independent TV film company. His outspokenness about his lack of understanding of homosexuality which he includes in his comedy routine puts him on a fast-track to a stardom that he had dreamt of for years. A confirmed bachelor and ladies-man, he would never commit to a permanent relationship till he met and fell in love with Suzy-Q.
