Properly applied transportability engineering is essential to the deployment of military equipment. An item of equipment is of little value if it cannot be transported rapidly and efficiently to where it is needed. This publication is a guide to transportability. It is intended for everyone interested in transportability: decision makers, materiel developers, combat developers, equipment designers and users, logisticians, and transporters. It is not designed to make you an instant transportability expert, but to help you understand the Engineering for Transportability program and the various transport modes. Detailed transportability criteria are given in MIL-STD-1366.
