Counting by the Sea is a children's counting book 1-20. Since I love walking on the beach, I chose things I see on my walks. Most of the items are common to the Carolina seashores where I have spent many summers as a child and as an adult. Children love to play at the seashore and children love finding and seeing things washed up on the shore. The items I found on my walks inspired me for the paintings. The idea for this book came about years ago while I was studying children's literature as an undergraduate education major. I took a short book I had written in college and expanded it.
