“Dead souls” is a novel by Russian writer Nikolay Vasilevich Gogol. He is a classic of world literature and surely Gogol’s most famous work. Dead souls is a satirical novel that Gogol’ wrote almost entirely during his stay in Rome. Gogol’ was willing to write a great poem about Russia following a Dante model. And “Dead souls”, which in itself represent a novel, was, in the writer's intentions, only the first part of this great poem, the one in which the lowest moral dimension of Russia (hell, in one Dante's scheme).
