At first lucky, Nathan won the lottery to attend college, but, as the story starts, finds himself a lottery loser at graduation and not eligible for career advancement. Defeated and ashamed, Nathan returns home to the California Bay Area where he falls in with two other white boys who’ve failed in the system and are “living off the grid.” After acquiring contraband motorbikes, they ride into the “off-limits” Sierra Nevada Mountains on a lark, running into a band of ragtag white “resistance fighters” who reveal the existence of a momentous riddle.
