Yudane is seven years old when he is given his first Balinese traditional drum. Growing up in the interweaving, rich world of Balinese magic, music, mischief, and violence, he carves a unique path across the landscape of new music composition in both Bali and New Zealand. Travelling widely, his virtuosic and perennially controversial compositions cross genre and media, including gamelan ensembles, orchestral music, choirs, electro-acoustic music, scores for dance, theatre, film, and installation. He is the recipient of many honours for his compositions. “Balinese Arts are famous for their capacity for constant innovation and renewal, and this fact is reinforced in the music of Wayan Yudane. His works introduce new concepts of gamelan orchestration, such that I have never heard in gamelan before, as well as striking utilisation of silence and the rhythms of breathing. With composers like Yudane, Balinese gamelan remains a vibrant, living art form, speaking in a strong and confident voice to twenty-first century audiences.” Jack Body, composer, New Zealand. “The form and ideas of Yudane’s contemporary compositions are a very free, spacious, intuitive “stream of consciousness.” His distinctive musical language is based on traditional materials but stands at a compelling distance from them.” Michael Tenzer, composer, author, and professor, University of British Columbia, Canada. “Yudane has created his own fragmentary, minimalist and reductive structures in new music composition that stand out.” Dieter Mack, composer, author, and professor, University of Music, Lubeck, Germany. “Yudane has created a unique style of Kebyar that is brilliant in its changing tempo and expressive use of dissonance and harmony. Music by Yudane flows from upstream to downstream, North to South, Kaja to Kelod and back and forth to a centrifugal force in music, creating a new voice in music in Bali.” Prof. Dr, I Made Bandem, ethnomusicologist, dancer, artist, author, professor, Bali.画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。
