"Columbus arrived at the court at the time the surrender of Granada was being consummated. Boabdela, the last of the Moorish kings, gave up the keys of the Alhambra to Ferdinand and Isabella." In 1883, The Grand Union Hotel of New York published a short book titled "The Discovery of America an Out-growth of the Conquest of the Moors by the Spaniards." As noted by the introduction, the purpose of the short book was "that the general public, and especially the young of our land may possess in condensed form, and become thoroughly familiar with the causes which lead to the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus in 1492, out of which grew the revival and final establishment of the Heliocentric system, and also the Government of the United States." The Granada War (Spanish: Guerra de Granada) was a series of military campaigns between 1482 and 1492, during the reign of the Catholic Monarchs (los Reyes Cat?licos) Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon, against the Nasrid dynasty's Emirate of Granada. It ended with the defeat of Granada and its annexation by Castile, ending all Islamic rule on the Iberian peninsula (al-Andalus). The short book ends by concluding that "thus the conquest of the Moors by the Spaniards, led Queen Isabella to furnish seven-eighths of the funds required to fit out the expedition of Columbus, which resulted in his discovery." About the author: The Grand Union Hotel was a world famous hotel located on Broadway in Saratoga Springs, New York. The hotel began as a boarding house, built by Gideon Putnam in 1802, but grew into the world's largest hotel, before it was demolished in 1953. The hotel published informative short books which included advertisements for the hotel.画面が切り替わりますので、しばらくお待ち下さい。
